Why Stay In Alta?

Guests who are new to Alta sometimes ask “Isn’t it cheaper to stay in Sandy or Salt Lake City, and drive up to Alta or Snowbird every day? That way, we could ski lots of different resorts during our vacation – right?” Well… it may be a little cheaper to stay in Salt Lake Valley, but the experience doesn’t compare.

Our convenient on-mountain location allows guests to ski directly to Alta’s lifts. Guests return by a short surface lift on the beginner slope right outside the Lodge.

The friendliness of everyone on the staff was a joy. All the employees– from housekeeping to the reception desk and dining room–were so accommodating and pleasant. I travel a lot and it’s so rare. Dinners were delicious with three choices–meat, fish or veggie.  -Kathy, 2023

No Car Required

You won’t need a car if you stay in Alta; a round-trip shuttle from the airport to Alta Lodge on Alta Shuttle is less than $100 per person.

Breakfast & Dinner Included

Breakfast and dinner are included in your winter stay at the Lodge. If you’re staying in the Salt Lake Valley, depending on your tastes, breakfast and dinner will add at least $50 to $100 per person per day.

No Commute to the Powder

Morning driving time to Alta… 25 minutes… or 2+ hours? It is possible to get from Salt Lake Valley to Alta in 25 minutes, with dry roadways and no traffic… but it doesn’t work that way on most ski mornings, let alone on a powder day. For Lodge guests, there are no worries about cars, roads, groceries, or restaurants.

Wake up to incredible mountain views and the fresh, clean air of Alta. Have coffee and a hot breakfast with friends, relax, or catch up on your email. Back in your room, turn on the boot warmers, get dressed for skiing, and boot up. Grab your skis from your locker, and with our convenient on-mountain location, ski right out the door to the lifts.

Utah’s Best

Skiers around the world agree that Alta’s terrain and snow make it one of the best. With 2,600 acres of skiing, 119 runs, five chairlifts and 2,500 feet vertical drop, there’s plenty of terrain for skiers of all abilities.

The average winter temperature is 20 to 25 degrees F with humidity at less than 10% – keeping the snow light and dry. The average annual snowfall of 546 inches creates not only great powder skiing but also wonderfully easy-to-ski groomed conditions.

Snowbird Adjacent

Snowbird’s 2,500 acres of skiing and snowboarding are just a mile away by free shuttle bus or accessed by the Alta-Snowbird combined pass.

With over 5,000 acres of world-class resort skiing in Alta and Snowbird combined, Little Cottonwood Canyon offers everything you need for the ultimate ski vacation.

Après Ski

After a great day on the slopes, ski back to the Lodge and enjoy complimentary afternoon tea time, hot tubs and saunas, a favorite drink in our legendary onsite Sitzmark bar, and a wonderful four-course dinner.

An Alta Lodge ski vacation follows the traditions of a classic ski week –  a big part of what makes a stay so special is relaxing and enjoying the time with friends and family before and after skiing. Join us and find out why we call it “Authentically Alta.”
