Mimi Muray Levitt (1943-2025)
In Memory
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mimi Levitt. Hailing originally from New York City, Mimi made Alta and Alta Lodge her home for the majority of her life. Fresh out of college, Mimi set her sights westward and, through connections of a friend (in true Alta fashion), secured herself a job as a “Deskie” at the Lodge in January of 1966. Everything fell into place, and she quickly found a home here. Mimi moved from Deskie to Reservations Manager, a position she held for decades, where she genuinely connected with Lodge guests through their regular stays at the Lodge.
Mimi played a central role in the Lodge through her relationship with guests and also as a member of the Levitt family ownership group. Mimi and Lodge Proprietor, Bill Levitt, found a love connection and married in 1980. Bill and Mimi were great partners. Not only did they work together to make Alta Lodge a “home away from home” for guests and employees, but they also formed the non-profit now known as Friends of Alta to sustain and preserve the uniqueness of Alta for generations to come.

Mimi was a fixture at the Lodge, beloved by guests and employees alike. Some might say Alta flowed through Mimi, the same way Mimi gracefully flowed through Alta. During the winter, you’d often find her (with a dog always by her side) connecting with guests in the lobby or dining room, sharing stories at tea time, or elegantly floating down the slopes.
